EXHIBITIONS & ART FAIRS

PHOTOGRAPHY BACKGROUND

Next to his professional life, which has been always structured, process oriented and characterized by managing and decision-making, he is finding his life balance by investing his time in his creative side as self-educated photographer.

Initially inspired by his father, he started his photographic journey more than 30 years ago and got passionate about combining his interests in latest technology, creative and artistic work, as well as adventure and exploration.

Through his extensive travels he was introduced to the cultural diversity in the Asia Pacific region, which he enjoys very much and is capturing amongst other topics in his photos from China, India and other countries.

In particular in his time in Asia he matured as photographer and maintained a wide variety of interests for people, culture, city- & landscapes as well as night photography. Capturing the moment is key for him and he is, stimulated by his time in Asia, in particular looking for high contrast, discrepancies and extremes.

He created his own artistic “fingerprint” by combining different proven techniques with his photographic craftsmanship into ultra-high resolution photographs. Most of his work is printed in very large sizes and captures an incredible amount of details which allows the discovery of new things all the time.

With his works “little WORLDs - Shanghai” and “CITY FUNNELS - Shanghai” he found his preferred way of blending his styles and interests with documenting the civilization process of Shanghai in an attractive and “non-documentary” way. “…The interesting aspect of the work is off course that it looks surreal but it actually gives me a chance to make something which is not attractive very attractive. This is especially the case for the photos I shot in the old demolished residence areas which would make the audience upset if they would have been with me in the real locations. The work allows me to document the civilization process and changes of Shanghai in my own way. I am trying to make the audience to appreciate the scene by making them unconsciously looking twice (“Look Twice – Shanghai” was Thomas 1st exhibition in China). We often need to give it a 2nd chance so that we can find nice aspects of life even in assumed “ugly” places which are demolished, smell, are wet or dirty.”
